This photo was taken in my home studio againse a black velvet backdrop.Time
early evening.Lighting
Pretty basic lighting, I just used two strobes one with a softbox off to the side and the other coming in from behind washing against the backdrop to give a little backlight.Equipment
Canon 5D MarkII and my Canon Zoom EF 24-105 1:4 L Series lense.Inspiration
My 14 year old daughter is an amazing make up artist and loves to experiment. Most times I will get home from work and be presented with this amazing look she has created and suddenly I forget that I'm tired and just spent the day at work and will grab the camera, set up the studio and capture her creativity as best I can so she has it for her portfolio.Editing
The only post production I used was to brighten the colours as I always shoot raw and to dodge the highlights in her hair.In my camera bag
I always carry my Canon 5D MarkII, Canon EF 24-105mm 1:4 L Series & Canon 70-200mm 1:2.8 L IS II USM, (My Favourite) & Canon Macro EF 100mm USM and my Canon EF 50mm 1:1.4 when I travel or go out on day trips shooting.Feedback
Don't be afraid to experiment with lighting, be confident with your model if using one as it makes them more relaxed to give the best they can, especially work on what is in their eyes as this tells a story. Shoot from every angle, don't just stand in one place, get on the floor, on a ladder, move from one side to the other. And have fun.
