Location
This shot was taken at the House of Blues in New Orleans. Being a concert photographer you have to be really quick on your feet because of all the variables that are happening; light is constantly changing, the performers are always on the move, and you only have the first three songs to get the photos that express what is going on in that moment.Time
This was artificial stage lighting that was out of my control, but it was manipulated by my camera settings and the shutter was pressed at the exact right moment where good light was on my subject.Lighting
Be quick with changing your aperture and shutter speed! The light is constantly changing and moving. Most of the time you will be shooting with a wide open aperture, but there are instances where that needs to change because you just never know!Equipment
In the pit you can’t use flash. I use my Nikon D800 with a Nikon 50mm f1.8 lens.Inspiration
Concert photography is all about capturing the sound of music, but in a photo! It can be tough at times but that is what I’m thinking about while in the pit.Editing
Minimal post processing only Lightroom to get the deep matte look and it was cropped into a square. In my camera bag
Nikon D800, Nikon 50mm f 1.8 lens, and Tokina 16-35mm f 2.8 lensFeedback
Just go into the pit with an open mind. No gameplan just go in there and have fun. If you know the band sing the songs while shooting and it will show through in your photos.
