Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken in my home studio.

Time

It was the afternoon.

Lighting

I just started working with colored gels and was experimenting with different colors and creating different moods. I have two 42" umbrellas with AlienBee 800's on each side with yellow gels. And one 33" umbrella with Alien Bee Einstein and a Cyan colored gel.

Equipment

I shoot with a canon 6D and sigma 85 1.4 lens. All Einsteins for strobes. And Lee filters for the gels.

Inspiration

I get really bored easily so I am always looking for new avenues to be creative. I found Jake Hicks gels tutorials on RGGEDU website and thought it looked very creative and now I am giving it a go.

Editing

With the gels I usually don't edit much other then facial retouch in photoshop.

In my camera bag

Canon 6D 85 and 35 sigmas 1.4. My favorite studio lens actually is the Canon 24-105mm II. My strobe are Alien bees. I have one Einstein and 3 800's.

Feedback

Well the easy way is to get Jack Hicks tutorial! I usually start with my rim lights and get them where I want them and then move to the key light and adjust to your taste.
