The Boardman Tree Farm in Oregon, is sadly soon to be gone. The poplar tree farm, site of many great photos, is to be chopped down and the land turned into farmland. Thankfully I was able to pop down for a day and capture this picture. Was featured on Canon's Instagram Feed, my highest "feature" as a photographer.

Location
I took this photo in a former treefarm in Boardman, Oregon. The tree farm is no longer standing, so sadly images such as this one are no longer possible.Time
It was taken in the middle of the afternoon, on a early November day...I'd flown down to Pasco, Washington and rented a car for the drive to Boardman. Thankfully it was a SUV, because the roads around the farm were unimproved dirt roads.Lighting
I wanted afternoon light and a clear day for this photo. Full light on the yellow/orange leaves made them seem even more vibrant...and really enhanced the colours of the leaves already fallen.Equipment
This was taken with a Canon EOS 60D (my first "real" camera) and a Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM lens. Handheld close to the ground, using "Live View"Inspiration
I had seen photos from this location for years, and never had been able to get out to it. I then found out the owners of the tree farm had sold the land for development into traditional farmland, and that once the trees were gone, there wouldn't be any more. I made this trip because I wanted to capture the beauty of a poplar tree farm, in it's full autumn glory, along with the leading lines of the trees.Editing
I use Google Nik for my post processing, and this picture required the use of a graduated neutral filter, plus a darken edges/lightened centre filter. In my camera bag
I now carry a Canon EOS 80D. I typically carry 2 lenses, a Canon EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS USM as my primary lens, and the same Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM lens this photo was taken with.Feedback
Scout your location...a tree farm might be completely open (this location there were no signs/gates/fences), or it might be somewhere that you need permission to be on. Do your homework, watch weather forecasts, and just get out there. You never know when a location might change hands and become inaccessable.
