Location
I was on my first trip to the arctic circle and took an evening snowmobile trip in search of the northern lights. We stopped at this very cute hut in the middle of the valley and ate reindeer soup and drank hot coffee. Was an amazing experience. I am an amateur photographer mostly self taught, and it really excites me when I get home to drain the memory cards off.Time
This was taken around 11.30pm and the temperature was around -15, but the photo makes it look warm. We were looking for the northern lights and at this point still no sighting...HOWEVER...Lighting
So, my main focus was the expanse of space with the contrasting hut, HOWEVER, to my surprise when I got this picture back home and started to explore it, the light were starting in the distance...and the naked eye could not see them..Equipment
I sued my Canon 7D 10-22mm lens, f/4.0 ISO1600, 4sec using my lightweight tripod.Inspiration
It was very quiet and peaceful, the hut contrasting to the snow and expanse of space.Editing
I use lightroom to bring the colours out and take out some of the noise...this is when I saw the northern lights just appearing. In my camera bag
I always take too much where ever I go, I love my 400mm prime an my 100mm macro and usually have this where ever I go together with my trusty 24-105 ! however on a snow mobile I was quite limited for this shot.Feedback
Cold drains your batteries, so have them in your pocket and keep them as warm as possible
