Behind The Lens

Location

In Canberra, Australia.

Time

It was early afternoon on a rainy miserable day, we were lucky to get a break from the weather long enough to shoot!

Lighting

The sort of light that comes from a mixture of bright Australian sunshine and moody grey clouds and rain.

Equipment

Only a basic D3300 with the kit lens, no other equipment. It's not always about the gear!

Inspiration

My model was sitting down at one point during a fashion shoot, and I had the idea to get this fresh perspective from above. When you get those little flashes of insight it's always a good idea to follow them!

Editing

Not much, just some small corrections with the colours.

In my camera bag

When I took this I had nothing but my D3300 and kit lens. These days I take a long range sports and wildlife lens, as well as a smaller 35mm for street photography and portraits. Plus my business cards, external flash, spare battery, and SD card.

Feedback

Try something new, I generally try to satisfy the criteria for a shoot near the beginning, and then play around with fresh concepts from there. In this case, a model portfolio shoot, I also had her hold an umbrella for a different backdrop, with the spokes providing leading lines into her face.
