Behind The Lens
Location
This was taken by the lake in Canberra. You can see the green of the grass and the blue of the water making a subtle divide through the photo.Time
Shot in the late afternoon verging on evening. My new lens had arrived and I was so excited to get out and shoot! (35mm F2 by the way) After stopping in at the post office on the way home from work, I collected Percy and rushed out to the lake. That day contains many of my favourite images, I feel the excitement of the new lens and the kind weather flowed through to add a little soul to the shots.Lighting
Lighting was pure luck this time, I was capturing the surface of the lake, and the local hills. Percy came over to investigate the shutter noises. You hear it all the time, but sometimes the best shot is the one behind you when you are out photographing.Equipment
Nikon D3300 with an incompatible lens! (Do your research before spending!) Nikkor 35mm F2, my body was lacking the sensor for the autofocus, so I had the pleasure of exploring manual. I really recommend it.Inspiration
I take a lot of pictures of my dog, I want him to feel special. When he trotted over to investigate what I was doing, I just had to snap this. Luck played a huge part here.Editing
Only some quick edits to bring the colours up, some images don't need much.In my camera bag
My bag consists of some core pieces; my current camera body, my 35mm F2 prime lens which is easily my favourite, spare battery and memory card, then of course business cards (great for breaking the ice with street photography). Then I pack either an off camera flash, or a telephoto lens, depending on the day.Feedback
Shoot shoot shoot, I keep to a challenge for myself to go out and capture the world at least once per day, my camera goes everywhere with me. I also post an image on my facebook photography page once per day. I was taking shots of the lake and landscape when my dog created this magic moment, and that changed the rest of my trip into close ups and depth of field. I took images through windows, of garden beds, shop counters, figurines and many more small objects. I like the mantra 'take two more' even when you get one of those images that you love straight away, take two more of the same thing, but from different angles, ranges, perspectives, just to be sure.
