I took this at the Wichita Zoo while traveling for work.Time
It was Jan 26 in Wichita. Cold place for Florida resident. On a unusually warm afternoon we went to the zoo before flying home. This fella was sitting on a stump and looking at the observation area. It was around 4pm.Lighting
From what the local folks said it was the first sunny day in some time. This was evident as there were lots of people at the zoo. The days are fairly short then and the sun had the right angle. I had to move about the observation area to get the best line I could. This was taken through glass which made it a little soft. I wish I could have used a flash to ease the shadow of his brow.Equipment
Canon 5DMKII, 70-200 2.8 II, hand held. This is cropped image as he was out enjoying the sun.Inspiration
I was watching several gorillas and this one seemed to be entertaining himself.Editing
Adjustments in Lightroom and Photoshop. In my camera bag
When I travel for work. (I design mechanical parts) I always take the 5DMKII, the 70-200 IS II, and a short telephoto if I have the space. If I am doing photography only add tripod, several lenses, flash, batteries, SD cards, lens cleaner,Feedback
Patience with animals. Sometimes you have to be there a while. Take a few test shots while you are there and look at them to make sure you have everything ready when something happens worth getting. I shoot manual except auto focus. Being under or over exposed ruins the shot you may never get another chance at taking.
