This photo was taken at John's Boat Dock in Drummonds, Tennessee, which is just North of Memphis, Tennessee on the Mississippi RiverTime
This photo was taken in the late afternoon around 6 pm in the early days April of 2016...When I went to take this picture I knew it was going to be a great capture because the sky that late afternoon was amazing.Lighting
When you really think about it, the beauty of sunsets and sunrises has little to do with the glowing ball of gas in the sky and everything to do with the color of the sky and clouds. Next time you photograph a sunset, try to avoid the sun and instead focus on its colorful periphery.Equipment
I used a Canon EOS 5D Mark iii Camera to take this picture...No tripod or flash was used...The lighting that day was perfect with lots of amazing clouds that produced amazing colors for the background effects on the picture...my other settings were: Aperture: 11/1 ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: 1/250 Focal Length: 35/1Inspiration
I have always loved sunsets because a sunset possesses the sun’s last rays peeking out from the horizon that lets us know the realization that tomorrow holds endless possibilities. You know it won’t last, but you savor every last bit of that fleeting beauty.Editing
Usually sunset photography requires a lot of processing but for this particular picture the lighting and color of the sunset and sky was perfect that afternoon but usually I have to use both Photoshop and Lightroom to mix the Raw file picture with the correct Luminsity masks to bring out the rich colors of the skyIn my camera bag
My camera bag is usually packed with a Canon EOS 5D Mark iii body and usually 3 lens...One being Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L II ...2 being Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II and finally a Canon 24-105mm f/4L IS...I also have a flash-Canon Speedlite 600EX II-RT and 2 extra batteries for my battery pack and of course a good tripod for certain picturesFeedback
When I go out to take sunset pictures I use a couple of good tips that I have kinda created for myself that I find to be very useful...always do your research to determine when and where you need to situate yourself to get the best view of the sunset then try and ignore the sun — it's the clouds you want..because without clouds you will not get the rich different amazing colors that is created when the sunlight hits them
