This photo is taken in Reykjavík (Iceland) by the little lake in the center of town called "Tjörnin" that means "the pond". I bought myself a Canon 600D in 2012 when I was 59 because I wanted to take real pictures as when I was 14 and my father gave me a 35 mm Olympus-S that was a fabulous camera (I still got it!). Then from around 16 to 59 I didn't take photos as a hobby untill I was turning 60. I'm experimenting, learning. Finding ViewBug was a discovery. Here I can find so many people who are so skilled and creative. I hope that will help me developing my own style. I don't have that. But I'm seeking something that I don't exactly know what is.Time
When I took this photo the time was 23:56:15 according to my camera that keeps track of such details. When I got home I had just missed the midnight news!Lighting
Well... it was just an Icelandic summernight in july. The weather was nice but a little cloudy. Nothing more to say about that.Equipment
The picture is taken on my Canon EOS 5D Mark III which I bought last year. I used my new lens Canon 16-35 mm f/2.8L USM, ISO 100, Focal length 27 mm, Exp 25 sec of f/16. I used a tripod of course.Inspiration
I was just driving home after taking some shots of the sunset by Grótta (the far west point of the little peninsula that Reykjavík stands on). When I drove through the center of town it reminded me of romantic days of my youth having fun downtown trying to impress the girls and pretending to be someone important. So I just felt like taking a little walk. I stepped out of the car and took my camera that was stuck to the tripod with me as they are expensive. I was not going to take any shots. But... things happen. The yellow house to the right is an old schoolhouse and just there my father learned to be a carpenter, graduated in 1937 and got as a Prize for good studies a thick book about the Olympics in Berlin. I just had to take a picture of this house!Editing
I did basic adjustments in Lightroom, then some processing in Color Efex Pro 4 of the Nik Collection and back again in Lightroom I did Post-Crop Vignetting. I recently discovered Nik Collection and I am experimenting. I have a lot to learn here - especially just doing what is necessary for creating a good image - but not more. I think I need some dicipline here.In my camera bag
I have my Canon 5D Mark III and normally only one of my three lenses except when I am traveling around the country. Then I have this 16-35 mm lens, also the 50mm 1.2 Canon lens (I just love that!), the 24-105 mm kit-L-lens and the EF 30 mm 1:2 IS USM (I like that; convinient and sharp). I have a polariser filter for every lens (I bought them this summer) and started this summer trying out some Lee stoppers.Feedback
I didn't realize how special the light is during the summer in Iceland untill I started taking photographs. I don't know anything about the technical side of this. But if you happen to pass through as a tourist, get up late and go late to bed, just stop, look around, and take your time. After a while you just notice some scene you would like to capture in a photo. When I took this photo I was not planning to take any photograps, just walking around and enjoying a wonderful night.
