The subtle texture and back light combine to suggest something is hidden that is very sacred.

Location
This image of a preening Great Egret was taken at sunrise at the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve in Huntington Beach, California.Time
The image was captured at 0737 hours (sunrise).Lighting
While the Egret was preening on a pretty popular post many photographers were shooting on the other side of the Egret. I liked the back light highlighting the wings from this side.Equipment
I used my Canon 7D with a EF 500mm 4L on a tripod with a gimbal head.Inspiration
Was into my third year of photographing bird and one of my friends introduced me to the idea of looking for side and back lighting opportunities. I spotted this lighting and knowing the behavior of the Egret when on this post.Editing
I processed this image in Lightroom and Photoshop adjusting the exposure down a bit and using the contrast. In my camera bag
Today when I go out shooting birds, I carry a 7D Mark II and a 5D Mark III; a 500mm and 70-200mm zoom lenses; and my tripod. I also take extra batteries and a 1.4 extender.Feedback
Know your subjects behavior, the various lighting opportunities at your location and look for something a little different.
