This hornet's nest appeared over the parking lot of our home in Morgantown, Lancaster County Pennsylvania. It grew to 30" x 12" x 36" by the first frost. Have not seen one bigger.

We had one that large in our tree one year.....the neat thing was is those hornets never bothered anyone and we had no problems with yellow jackets that year!~

This photo was taken at our home in Morgantown, Pennsylvania. The hornets built this nest in a tree next to the driveway. It actually hung over one of the vehicles parked in the drive. It was high enough that we were not concerned about the massive nest. Well, if I am honest, my wife was a bit concerned. It was fascinating to see how massive this nest grew over the summer. Literally, thousands of hornets were housed in this nest.Time
it was take in the early afternoon, when sun was at my back.Lighting
No special lighting was required.Equipment
The image was captured by my FugiFilm FinePix S9450W. No tripod, flash nor any other equipment was requiredInspiration
I had been watching this nest from the late spring to early fall and kept a photo diary of its' development over the summer and fall months. It turned into the largest hornet's nests, which I harvested in the early winter month's and sold on Ebay for hundreds of dollars.Editing
In this case, just used the auto-contrast setting in Photoshop. That's it!In my camera bag
With this particular camera, I just make sure I have extra batteries.Feedback
