Location
I shot this photo in Yosemite National Park, when my wife and I were hiking and happened upon a trio of deer grazing in the woods nearby.Time
Very late morning - almost noon.Lighting
I usually don't like trying to shoot in mid-day light, but the rays peaking through the trees and onto these animals added some nice drama to the shot.Equipment
Canon Rebel, 300 mm lense. HandheldInspiration
I love shooting wildlife, and I love the National Parks, so when I come across opportunities like this, I take full advantage. The lighting here was especially inspiring.Editing
Just some minor dodging and burning. In my camera bag
I carry quite a bit -- a portable, fold-up tripod, flash, a 80mm lense, 300 mm lense, wide-angle lense, fish-eye lense, flash, and most recently a fixed focal-length lense.Feedback
Yosemite is a gorgeous park and there are some nice opportunities to shoot wildlife. The deer tend to be rather accustomed to people so they are a little easier to capture -- they aren't as easily scared and so they don't run off as much as you'd expect. Some even wander into campsites and lodge areas. Also, shooting in the woods makes for great photos no matter what the lighting conditions -- even in really harsh sunlight the rays coming through the trees can add some wonderful drama to the shot.
