A wonderful shot. Great colors. great sensitivity to the light. And, it is nice to know that such places still exist.

Location
A lot of people say that landscape photography is about being at the right place at the right time. Sometimes a great picture can come from being at the wrong place at the right time too. That's what happened in this instance. We were on a trip in New Zealand, exploring all of the variety in landscapes that it has to offer. On the way to one particular location, we got lost and ended up in the middle of the country next to a sheep pasture. It was the most beautiful wrong turn we'd ever taken.Time
This photo was taken in the morning outside of the city, Rotorua, in New Zealand. The area around Rotorua has a lot of geothermal activity, including lots of hot springs in the area. During the morning, mist, steam, and fog settle all around the country side from the large range of clashing temperatures, creating a beautiful, diffused lighting in many places.Lighting
The environmental elements lit this picture for me.Equipment
This picture was shot with a Nikon D7000, using an 18-300mm lens at f/11. No other equipment was used.Inspiration
I spent most of our trip doing my best to document the serene beauty of New Zealand. This picture summed it up in one shot.Editing
This is one of my few pictures where no post-processing was required! In my camera bag
I always carry more than one lens. I try to have a telephoto, a wide-angle, and a large aperture prime lens in my bag at all times. It doesn't matter what you might be shooting; it's always fun to try a shot using a different perspective. You may be surprised by what you get! I also try to have at least one flash gun with a remote too, in case I need to manipulate the lighting any. Neutral density filters come in handy too!Feedback
If you're trying to get a great shot, be patient and always have your camera on you. As much as you can prepare to take a great shot, you can never control the weather or environmental conditions. You may have to wait for days for the right cloud cover or lighting, or you may take a wrong turn down a dirt road on your way to a location and have a perfect situation suddenly appear to you. Also, a common mistake I see and that I've made when taking a landscape photo is not having a point of interest. Always have a point of interest, no matter how beautiful the background! Otherwise, you will always be stuck feeling like your picture is, "just missing something," because it will be.
