It's called: dedication to the craft (I think) ....
In July I was laying down on cold cobblestones on ‪#‎CharlesBridge‬ in ‪#‎Prague‬ at 4:30 in the morning! Not a soul around, no people! (hard to believe) ... only sounds of the shimmering river, chirping birds and lazy, lazy sun waking up from its nightly slumber. Unbelievable experience! Getting out of bed in a middle of the night at 2AM to freeze a few moments like this - PRICELESS!
Being a little nuts doesn't hurt ... it makes you feel ‪#‎ALIVE‬!

Behind The Lens

Location

I created this capture in Prague, Czech Republic. Being a self-taught photographer gives me a freedom to discover new ways and not be afraid to try new 'tricks' ... just going for whatever sparks my imagination.

Time

It's called: dedication to the craft (I think) .... In July I was laying down on cold cobblestones on ?#?CharlesBridge? in ?#?Prague? at 4:30 in the morning! Not a soul around, no people! (hard to believe) ... only sounds of the shimmering river, chirping birds and lazy, lazy sun waking up from its nightly slumber. Unbelievable experience! Getting out of bed in a middle of the night at 2AM to freeze a few moments like this - PRICELESS! Being a little nuts doesn't hurt ... it makes you feel ?#?ALIVE?!

Lighting

Wasn't sure what I could expect. It was still pitch dark when I left a hotel just before 3am in the morning. It was either going to be sunny or cloudy - prediction of the weatherman. But the gamble paid off ... the waking up of the sun is so mysterious. The symphony of colors is such a feast to the eyes! It's a pure magic being painted in the sky ... and it gets better with every minute with all colors becoming more rich, vivid and intense.

Equipment

Cobblestones were my tripod. My camera of choice is Canon 5D MKIII and for this picture I used Canon 24-105 lens.

Inspiration

Fell in love with Charles Bridge in Prague the very first day I saw it. But there were unbelievable crowds everywhere! The daylight was showing the bridge in a 'flat' way. I wanted to capture the true beauty and uniqueness of this magnificent structure! In my head I saw a gleaming string of lights and a juxtaposition of darkness of night and colors of sunrise; and cobblestones against the light falling from lanterns and inside the tower. The golden glow of lanterns/posts was going to be delightful against the dark blue sky. In my mind the light reflecting in the cobblestones was going to be a 'cherry on the top'.

Editing

Shot RAW. Not much postprocessing except normal in LR with highlights, shadows etc ...

In my camera bag

When doing landscape photography ... I always have my Canon 24-105mm lens. It's my 'all over' lens of choice. Always reliable and ready either for wide angle or close up. I also carry Canon 16-35mm for wider scenes/panoramas.

Feedback

The Charles Bridge in Prague has been photographed thousands of times. But I am not discouraged by that. I usually look at an object or a scene thru my own eyes of experience. I stop and 'catch' myself in my thoughts ... asking what do I feel, what is my experience, what is really happening around me etc. Then I try different angles, looking from different vantage points, imagining how the object/scene may look in different lighting, closeup, different time of day etc... it's just like playing "imagination monopoly". In time you get to acquire a lot of 'visual loot' ... if you play the game.
