[caption for night photography article] Although single exposures can get you good quality images in some situations, there will be times when you need to use more advanced techniques. In order to get detail in the dark foreground in this photo from Canyonlands National Park, I had to blend two different exposures taken at different times. Canon 5D II, 14mm. Exposure for land: f8.0, 1.6 seconds, ISO 100. Exposure for sky: f2.8, 30 seconds, ISO 6400.

The photo is both beautiful and very interesting. The ring of stones in the foreground tells a story and stirs the curiousity. It could be a fire pit or the foundation for a rock shelter. The colors are great.
