Location
This photo was taken in Austin, Texas during my very first engagement photo session.Time
This particular shot was just as the sun was setting in mid-spring. It's one of my absolute favorite captures from the gallery because it was just around an overcast covered the sky and provided the perfect lighting.Lighting
When the sky grew overcast, I no longer needed a flash. The dispersion of the sunlight through the clouds was simply perfect. It created a more romantic and whimsical scene in this particular shot.Equipment
I used my Canon Rebel t3i with a Canon 18-55mm lens. No other equipment was used.Inspiration
This particular session was superhero themed because the bride-to-be wanted her fiancé to be excited. As we started to wrap up and the groom changed into a more casual look, I asked if they wouldn't mind taking a few more to show them in a more casual manner. This moment was initially intended for only capturing the ring. As I started to position and zoom in on my shot, he leaned in to kiss her. It was an incredibly honest moment and loved that I was able to get it.Editing
I used Adobe Lightroom. I transitioned the raw image into black and white, then adjusted the shadows, highlights and slightly increased the clarity. However not much adjustment was required. In my camera bag
I now carry my Canon 70D with a Canon EF-S 18-135mm 3.5-5.6 IS, Canon Speedlite 580X flash with soft box diffuser, several SanDisk memory cards, 2 additonal fully charged batteries and as a back-up my Canon Rebel t3i with 50mm lens.Feedback
The first thing I always do before doing a shoot for couples or families is get to know them. Their hobbies, personal style, favorite movies, etc. It may sound silly, but that's what I want to know because it will greatly influence how I decide to capture them in poses and to know which candid moments you can stir up. Best advice I can give strictly based on this photo is to allow the moment to show itself, and in doing so you will capture the unexpected.
