Location
This photo was taken in my own home studio, which always sounds impressive but all my "studio" consists of is a large table, a large light tent (not very expensive to purchase and even cheaper to make with a box and tracing paper) and two small bedside lights with cool daylight lamps in them.Time
The photo was taken early in the morning as that is the best time for bright sunlight in the room I take photos in.Lighting
The lighting needed to be very subtle for this shot as I wanted to make sure there were no bright reflections or blown highlights on the plastic rings of the notebook I used with the pencils. So I used the natural light in the room but didn't add an extra lighting.Equipment
I used a Canon 7D, Canon 60mm macro and a tripod.Inspiration
The inspiration for this image came from a competition I was entering and the theme was the colour Green. I started off with a few green coloured pencils and then saw my notebook was green also, so brought that into the image and the starting gates of a horse race just came into my imagination.Editing
Post processing consisted of some cropping and sharpening a little with a bit of saturation increased to ensure the greens looked vibrant. In my camera bag
I am a complete Canon fan apart from one Sigma lens and my camera bag contains the following: Canon EOS 5D MK II - Canon EOS 7D - Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L - Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L - Canon EF-S 10-22mm - Canon 60mm Macro - Sigma AF 120-400mm - Manfrotto Geared Head and Tripod along with a Polarising Filter and a Variable ND Filter. I have also recently added a Canon 5DSR (I picked up second hand) and a new R6 with 70-200 L Series lens. Life is good : )Feedback
If you want to create something similar then always be open to the seemingly insignificant things that surround you every day. Even just pencils and a notebook can open up an amazing world of images.
