Location
I took this photo in North Carolina at a small venue called Cardinal Bands and Billiards.Time
This photo was taken at night inside a venue.Lighting
When it comes to live music the lighting tech is the main man to talk to. You let him know what looks good and if you have a great guy he will make sure the show is lit.Equipment
I used a Nikon D7000 and an 18-140 kit lens. It’s all I had at the time and made it work with what I had.Inspiration
The promoter for the band and venue asked me to shoot the show.Editing
Just simple adjustments in photoshop before I knew how to use Lightroom. This was basically a raw image. In my camera bag
Now I have more equipment that I’ve invested in. I have a Nikon D750, 3 lenses of all ranges and an external flash.Feedback
Use lighting to your advantage with live music, the better the lighting the better change you have at a clear image. I also like to shoot from lower angles to get a more extreme perspective. Some venues have taller stages but this place the stage was really small. Every venue is different but I’d say the biggest trick is playing with light.
