Location
This shot was taken during floriade nightfest in Australia's capital, Canberra. Happens every spring, so a new one is about to kickoff. I have a bunch of images from the event and others like it in Canberra over the years. Have a peak.... http://www.darrencharlesphotography.com.au/GalleriesFolder/NightFest/Time
The floriade free flower festival has a nightime segment which you have to pay to enter and it runs for 5 nights. This was what I did and came across this scene by accident. Some guy was messing around for his girlfriend who was just to the right of him out of shot.Lighting
During the festival they light up various areas of Commonwealth Park, each year is different. In this instance they had smoke creeping in from the stage beyond the trees. Timing was just right, the floodlights just lit up the scene and from my angle down the slope somewhat looking up, it created a really interesting silhouette of the trees and the guy, who at this angle and lack of front light looks to have no head.Equipment
I like to travel lite, so I used my Olympus OMD EM5 and my Lumix G 35-100 F2.8 lens. ISO was set on 400 and shutter speed was 1/3 sec...the image stabilizer in this camera worked well.Inspiration
Wish I could say I staged it because I had this great vision, but sadly it was just an opportunistic moment. It was as I saw it, it just reminded me of the movie Sleepy Hallow....a tree and a headless guy. It looked so cool so I shot it.Editing
I didn't need to do much processing on this particular image, just pushed up the contrast after turning it Black and White...done!In my camera bag
I really do like to travel lite otherwise I find I wont take my camera out unless on a paid job. Just a single body and a few choice lenses.Feedback
I wish I could say something deep and meaningful. Like most photographers, you always have an eye out for something interesting to shoot. If you want to capture this sort of thing you need to go out and visit these type of festivals. Or stage the shoot yourself :)
