This photo was taken on an "island" called Antelope Island near the mosquito laden "dead sea" called the Great Salt Lake in Utah. It stinks, it's full of biting bugs but you just can't beat this view. We love to brave the nasty negative side to this island just for this view.Time
I wanted the colors to be rich and, somewhat somber, thought provoking and somewhat dark and calming.Lighting
The sky was sending us a beautiful deep gold and I countered it with dialing down my sb910 speed light...just enough to illuminate her a bit but keep her somewhat dark.Equipment
Nikon D800, mePHOTO Tripod, Nikon sb910Inspiration
My daughter had just lost one of her best friends in a terrible accident where she lost her life. She was only 12 years old. We wanted the color to embrace the sadness that my daughter was currently feeling. I'm not one to hold onto sadness, I try to help brighten and lighten but in this case my daughter needed this image. It has helped her.Editing
Played a little with the s curve in Adobe Lightroom and increased the vibrance as well as did some sharpening and noise reduction. In my camera bag
Nikon D800, 50mm lens, 24-120 lens, sb910 speedlight, chapstick, aa batteries, duck tape, granola bar, ipod nano, tripod, variety of filters.Feedback
Bug spray, bug spray and more bug spray. The sun sets quickly and when your shooting here you need to be quick because the window of light here when it's not too harsh and not too low is brief.
