Location
We cruised up the Tracy Arm Fjord in Alaska aboard the Carnival Spirit to the Sawyer Glacier.Time
I believe it was between 2-3PM PST.Lighting
It was a lightly overcast day, no direct sunlight, but not at all gloomy.Equipment
Handheld Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS1. Automatic setting. 12x zoom w anti-shake.Inspiration
The blue depth of the ice inspired many shots. The proximity of the touring boat to the face of the actively calving glacier prompted me to zoom in on it to get a good perspective. I included enough of the extended field of the glacier to enhance the feeling of massiveness.Editing
Very little lighting compensation was employed. No Photo Shop effects were used.In my camera bag
Now, I normally have my Pentax K-5 and 16-45mm and 55-300mm lenses and always have a tripod or mono-pod with me for these kinds of shots.Feedback
Pay attention to framing, make sure you cut nothing off, keep each subject away from the edge of the frame, and take lots of shots. Memory is cheap!
