Location
As i live and travel on a narrow boat in England i get to see some very interesting places, such as this place in Tring Hertforshire England, i first passed here some 6 months earlier now from the canal you cant see the reservoir, it was on my return a friend local to the area told me about it, this is the Marsworth Reservoir flight of locks in Hertfordshire England.Time
i had a weeks worth of sunsets and sun rises but this was by far the best image of the week, i had gotten friendly with some guys fishing, who incidentally cooked me a meal while i was taking photos, but around 9pm one of the guys rowed out to lay bait for the evenings fishing i nearly flipped the atmosphere was intoxicating but to have the fisherman rowing back across the stream of light was the icing on the cake.Lighting
the lighting was just magical morning and evening and from about 8pm i was just watching how the light was changing getting more and more golden nothing you can do but let mother nature do her stuff.Equipment
for this shot i used a Canon 400d with the kit lens 18-50 mm no flash was used and it was hand held i really did have to shoot on the fly as the light and circumstances were changing constantlyInspiration
I love to shoot sunsets and sunrises when a friend told me of this place and said you can get some great sunsets there that was all the inspiration i needed, i'm always looking for this sort of shot but being on a boat sees me in some great locations and normally i just have to walk a couple of minuets to get a good compositionEditing
i do some post processing as you cant get an even balance between light and dark plus shooting in raw the colours need boosting a littleIn my camera bag
as stated before as i'm on a boat all my equipment is with me but if i am travelling for a shoot then i just take the bare essentials so if i'm shooting wild life then it will be a long zoom so on this occasion i just had my Canon 400d camera and kit lens.Feedback
I think we can get caught up with settings i tend to under expose a scene like this so the sun isn't too over exposed i always try and shoot over water, (well i would living on the water) check your exposure on the back of the camera long as you can still see some detail in the for ground thats all you need just enjoy the thrill of the moment.
