This is the 2nd of three images in my American West Wildlife Half Portrait series.
Here is my write up for the collection:
"A little over two years ago, an idea for a personal project came to me, and I decided I wanted to capture a series that showcased the details of three individual species found in Yellowstone that represent a specific purpose in the Western ecosystem. During every shoot from that point on, I looked for specific photo opportunities that I could use for this idea.
I had a list of key components that each composition would require in order to maintain a cohesive flow among the set. I knew each image needed to have a light, snow-covered background, paired with consistent tones and detail throughout the coat of each animal. When displayed together, the goal was to encompass the heart of Yellowstone’s wildlife as a whole. While this project symbolizes a place that has changed my life, it is also intended to reflect my artistic approach when crafting an image.
My main purpose in photography is to create an emotional experience for the viewer, allowing them to connect with the subject. By focusing on light and shadows, paired with a shallow depth of field, I aim to transport the audience to the moment each photo was captured. My hope is that the viewer will walk away with a greater respect and appreciation for the wildlife of the American West and recognize the continuous need to protect it."
