Behind The Lens

Location

I drove for 17hrs to Perce, Quebec in The Gaspe Peninsula. I took this image looking straight down a cliff from my chalet.

Time

I looked over the cliff often because there was an ever-changing vista that was amazing. I would often see whales, seals, and sea birds from the lookout. I believe this image was taken early morning.

Lighting

The lighting was slightly overcast.

Equipment

I used my D850 with a 150 to 600mm Tamron lens at 600mm. I hand-held the camera at 1/500 ISO 400 F 8

Inspiration

I loved looking over this lookout at the chalet we stayed at lots of beautiful views of Perce Rock and sea life.

Editing

I photographed the image in Raw and used photoshop to crop increase contrast using clarity and curves.

In my camera bag

I have a variety of cameras D850 D750 D7100 and D300 converted to infrared. For Lenses, I have a Sigma 10 20mm Nikon 50mm F1.4 Tamron 24 -70 Tamron 90mm macro Nikon 80 -200 F2.8 and a Tamron 150 - 600mm. I use Godox flash units.

Feedback

I have never traveled to this part of Canada before and was very pleased with the variety of landscapes and nature images. My wife and I visited Bonaventure island for a day and were overwhelmed to see and photograph over 110.000 colonies of Northern Gannets. We were able to go whale watching and see three different species of whales. This was a photographer's trip to shake off the covid lockdown blues.
