So in 2012 I joined the ranks of volunteers at Aquarium of the Bay in San Francisco, CA.
After filling out the onboarding paperwork I was walking with one of the biologists and we rounded the corner, and a tank of these amazing Japanese sea nettles was front and center. This is the first of many photographs I took over the following 5 years at the aquarium. Although it is still one of my favorites.

Location
This photo was taken at aquarium of the bay in San Francisco, California. I was there for orientation as an incoming Animal Care volunteer.Time
It was early afternoon, however, since it was taken indoors, not really a factor.Lighting
The room itself was dark, but the tank was lit with an extremely large halogen bulb, suspended 4 feet above the tank. No flash, or any supplementary lights were used other than aquarium, lighting itself.Equipment
This was taken with a canon power shot that I happen to have in my backpack at the timeInspiration
When I turned the corner and saw the tank, it was absolutely gorgeous. To this day it stay at still one of my favorite photos I’ve ever taken.Editing
This is actually an earlier version of this photo there are some slight tweaks to contrast, brightness, shadow, and exposure. I have since resized and completely redone that post processing on this photo. The updated version is in my Viewbug profile pictures. In my camera bag
To be honest nowadays, I just use my iPhone with some supplementary lenses. Moment lenses being among my favorite.Feedback
Just take pictures, try different angles, elevations, lighting, etc. The more you play around with it the more you realize what gets results for your personal aesthetic.
