Location
I took this photo at jigokudani national park in Japan, home of the famous snow monkey.Time
I spent an couple of hours at this park, so I am not sure at what time I made this exact picture. But I relied on public transportation to get to this place, so it could'nt be very early.Lighting
Lightning conditions weren't very good, there was a lot of hard light reflecting on a lot of snow(not visible in this picture) but the location of the hotspring (where these monkeys stay) lies in a small valley and the steam coming of the hotspring helps to dim the light a little bit.Equipment
I used a canon 6d with a canon ef 100-400 mm F4.5-5.6 IS L USM 77 mm I did not use a flash or tripod.Inspiration
Ever since i was a kid I wanted to visit the japanese snowmonkeys no more, no less. So when I made the trip to Japan I went to jigokudani too see what was possible.Editing
I did a little raw processing and increased the contrast a little bit.In my camera bag
I carry a my canon 6d body, a wide angled lens, a mid range lens, a telezoom lens and a macro lens.A flasher, an nd filter, a tripod and a monopod.Feedback
the thing with animals is that you have to be patient for a good picture. You also need at least a 300 mm lens to get a good result.
