Location
The photo has been taken in Brussels where I live. It is the principal road in to Brussels, and on the right and left are office buildings off the European Council.Time
Since I wanted to have straight lines, I did choose night time. Furthermore to have the cars tracing this color full lines you need to have a fluid traffic. During day time and the need off a long exposure nearly impossible, furthermore traffic jams are frequent during the day.Lighting
This is one off the pictures where the scenery acts by itself. You need a long exposure. The longer the better. So to achieve this, a low ISO value and a small aperture are welcome.Equipment
The camera was mounted on a tripod. I did use a wide angle lens to enhance the depth of the photo. My camera is a Nikon D700, the lens used is the magnificent 14-24 mm 2.8. zoom.Inspiration
When travelling by car and you come out off the tunnel, you have this magnificent view. The straight lines and the modern buildings are lined up and gives this very futuristic view. So I was wondering if there was a viewpoint where you can take this photo. Google earth is a great tool for finding a spot.Editing
No post-processing needed. The cars provided more than enough light. They did the acting in this scene. In my camera bag
I do have two cameras. A trusty D700 and recent I bought a Nikon D3X, build like a tank, and producing amazing images. My favorite lenses are the magnificent 14-24 mm 2.8 and 24-70 mm 2.8. I do use also the 80-200 mm 2.8. The colors and sharpness are amazing.Feedback
Taking this pictures are straight forward, a bit of patience and foremost the cars are your best actors. Its thanks to them that the photo came alive. If your camera supports long exposures, look for the setting noise reduction on it will enhance the quality.
