Location
This photo was taken at The Elks National Memorial in Chicago across from Lincoln Park. "The Memorial is a tribute to the bravery, loyalty and dedication of the thousands of Elks who have fought and died for our country. It has been described as one of the most magnificent war memorials in the world, but with its monumental architecture and priceless art, the memorial is more a symbol of peace and of the patriotism of the members of the Elks fraternity."Time
The Elks Memorial is open to the public from 12:00pm, until 4:00pm Monday thru Saturday, April 15th to November 15th. Admission is free. Because there is so much to shoot inside, I arrived at 12:00 noon and had to be kicked out at 4:00pm.Lighting
My photo is of The Grand reception Hall. The lighting primarily comes from the large ceiling chandelier and some natural light from the stained glass windows. One of the main problems is not the lighting, but tourists who are constantly streaming into your composition and interrupting your photography. So you must be very patient.Equipment
I used a Canon 7D, Canon 16-35mm wide open, and a tripod.Inspiration
I had heard about it for some time from some friends, and it's also one of the sites in Chicago's free Architecture tour in October.Editing
I had to blend 3 images here because the extreme contrast of light in the room.In my camera bag
Canon 7D, Canon 16-35mm lens, Canon 70-300mm lens, Various graduated neutral density and neutral density lens.Feedback
Arrive early and be prepared to be patient.
