Behind The Lens

Location

The original photo was taken after a long hike to the top of Arthur's Seat Hill, on the magical city of Edinburgh, Scotland.

Time

It was actually not the greatest time for photography, technically speaking. About 3 on the afternoon.

Lighting

Despite the hour, these cloudy sky once every couple minutes allowed some diffused sun rays in, which gave a nice and soft contrast on the boulders.

Equipment

At that time I was using a lended camera, a Nikon D7100, with a 50mm 1.8

Inspiration

To be honest, I wasn't thinking about post-processing this picture afterwards. But when I came home and saw it on the big screen, the idea came to me.

Editing

It would be very dangerous if this wasn't post-processed :). I don't usally do drastical edits, but I felt the picture could do so much more. Since I was a kid I developed an interest in pencil drawing, so my mind tends to go to the creative side. Just the feeling of being on top of the world, combined with autumnal tones, was actually my way of expressing how I felt being on that summit that day.

In my camera bag

I'm writing this circa two years after taking the picture. Nowadays, my equipment includes a Nikon D750, the classical 50mm 1.8 lens, an 80-200mm 2.8, and a 16-85mm 3.5-5.4. Also a manfrotto light trypod and some filters, but nothing special there.

Feedback

If you really like post-processing, always take a look on your old pictures. Just open your Lightroom catalog and check. There may be hidden stuff that you left behind. Beyond that, I won't lie to you and tell you that I take pictures thinking on adding post-processing, rather than the basic edits. Hope you're not disappointed! Get out and start shooting ;)
