Location
This photo was taken above my favorite cove on the beautiful island of Oahu. The cove features an abundance of features including cliff jumping, large waves for swimming, and a bunch of sea life.Time
Out of the hundreds of photos that I captured during our trip, this is one of my favorites. Almost every popular beach on the island becomes overcrowded by the time 10:00am comes around, but not this one. My girlfriend and I enjoyed this entire beach to ourselves for almost four hours. This allowed me to spend lots of time taking portraits, timelapses and aerial shots without any interruption. This photo was taken on September 27, 2017 at 1:15pm.Lighting
I would have loved to capture this spot during sunset or sunrise, but never had the chance to. A cloud had just moved in front of the sun, eliminating any harsh shadows.Equipment
This was taken with a DJI Mavic Pro with a ND8 filter at around 120 ft in altitude.Inspiration
I loved how the highway curved in the same direction as the beach. I flew the Mavic up high enough to capture the water connecting to the beach, the beach connecting with the rocks, and the rocks connecting with the highway. Capturing four different "elements" (for lack of a better word) was my main goal when capturing this shot.Editing
This shot didn't require more than basic lightroom adjustments. I brought up the shadows to show more detail in the rocks, added a bit of contrast and added a bit of saturation to the blues to make the ocean stand out even more.In my camera bag
I carry a compact Lowepro bag that fits all of my main photo/video gear. This includes, my Sony a6500 and a6300, Zeiss 55 1.8, Sony FE 85 1.8, Zeiss 35 2.8, and my Mavic Pro. I am definitely looking to add a wide angle zoom lens soon.Feedback
When I first start photography about five years ago, one of the first lessons that I took very seriously was "Fill the Frame." This photo does just that. From the left edge to the right edge of the frame, and from top to bottom, you can find something interesting to look at in detail. The next time you look to capture a great aerial shot, attempt to fill the frame with many different and interesting subjects.
