Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Bayfront Park in Hamilton Ontario, Canada. This was my first maternity shoot!

Time

We did the photo shoot late afternoon/early evening. The couple had to work and was the time they had available as we had already rescheduled due to bad weather. We also wanted to take advantage and get some sunset shots.

Lighting

Worked with the natural sunlight. I prefer it to studio lights.

Equipment

This photo was shot with my Canon 5D Mark III. No tripod or other equipment was used.

Inspiration

I had asked to couple to bring the shoes to get shots on the beach with the shoes and writing the family's name in the sand. Unfortunately the waves were too strong that day due to the strong wind so when I saw the way the father to be was holding the shoes, this image came to mind.

Editing

I did do some cropping to the photo and popped the color of the shoes.

In my camera bag

Usually my Canon 5D Mark III is my go to camera. My lens will depend on what I am shooting, but quite often it's my 70-200mm or my 50mm. I don't like to be weighed down with equipment so I tend to keep it light.

Feedback

I have found that just going out and practicing with the natural lighting (sun, clouds etc) to learn your camera, lenses and settings. I am self taught and having friends that are willing to volunteer as models. As for poses, I am always looking at other photographers work for creative ideas and inspiration.
