Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my home studio (my bedroom) using the afternoon natural light.

Time

This was shot sometime between 2-4pm during the summer months.

Lighting

For this series I utilized the summer afternoon light to get the nice warm glow and feeling

Equipment

I used a canon t3i with the stock 18-55mm stock lens. It's not the gear that makes the photographer!

Inspiration

I was inspired by the model's delicate features and her tattoo work. She's a very quiet person so I thought this was a good representation of her personality while she's at home

Editing

I brought down the shadows and the exposure in the entire image, and used dodge and burn techniques to illuminate her face a little bit more

In my camera bag

I ALWAYS carry at least two disposable cameras, a Canon Rebel film camera, my Canon 5dmkii, a 50mm and 35mm for lens choices, and my new toy is a Manfrotto tripod!

Feedback

When shooting people/portraits, I tend to stay away from posing my model. I like to get natural reactions, so I try to make the model feel as comfortable as possible by playing music they enjoy and throwing in a few bad jokes here and there. I find it to be more personable than "put your hand here and look at me like this".
