Location
The photo was taken in a trip around Pacific Coast in Nuquí, Colombia. It is an adventure that many people want to do (and should) but I had the privilege to win a photo contest where the prize was this amazing trip.Time
This was taken on August 14, 2016 at 05:00 pm. August is the perfect season to photograph the amazing humpback whale that travel from Antarctica to Pacific Coast in Colombia, but season start from June to October every year.Lighting
It is a rainy area, so most of the weather is cloudy, this time I have a diffused light that gave the feeling of tranquility, without use of external lighting accessories, only natural light.Equipment
This was shot on a Nikon D3200, with an 70-300mm f/3.5 lens. No other equipment was involved.Inspiration
The beauty of humpback whale. No matter if it is the tail, the hump or the water they ejected when come to the surface, one piece of the whale reveals all its immensity and beauty.Editing
A little bit of post-processing, first the basic arrangements on lightroom like highlights and shadows, and next I use the Nik Collection pack from Google in photoshop to bring a personal touch. In my camera bag
For now I don't have equipment, I always rent a camera.Feedback
It's like going fishing, you may be lucky to find many whales or see almost any of them, so if you're photographing humpback whales you should have two or three days to go find them and watch them out of the water and have good weather. In your bag should have a telephoto or variable focal length lens in case you find them very close, a plastic cover for your camera to protect it from water splash or rain, and a lot of patience.
