Katja von Jaeger (noir_matou on IG) in a bewitching series that we shot over a year ago. After the last year of learning new things on my own, things I hadn't known previously, it was fun to play around and create this image of our series.
Tunic: Naturally Bohemian
The word "cwtch" is a welsh word that means one of two things, the first being '(1.) a cupboard or cubbyhole. Or (2.) a cuddle or hug.' finitions: noun (Welsh) 1. a cupboard or cubbyhole. 2. a cuddle or hug.' However, this definition isn't conclusive, because the wonderful thing about the Welsh word, 'cwtch', is that there's no literal English translation.

I adore that grey hair with the background. Really brings out her face. I like the feel of this photo. Really well done.

Thank you, it's a technique I learned and applied for an erotica set I once edited, and it seemed to go well with the overall feel of this image. :3

Location
This photo was taken in the woods really close to the apartment complex I live at, it's really interesting, it was my first time scouting with anyone at this location, it's a bit further than where I would normally shoot for a lot of my fantasy work, but this spot was amazing, and the model is a friend I hadn't seen in years and got to reconnect with.Time
I can't remember exactly, I was to say that this was shot around 3-5pm, I enjoy shooting ideas and concepts in the afternoon, I'm always chasing golden hour, this was shot during May of 2015, I think it was within the first week of the month.Lighting
To be honest, this was shot during a sunny day, I personally love working with natural lighting and sometimes low lighting is my favorite, what helped with the lighting in this shot is the trees that were surrounding us from above. It made the light seem less intense, I balance between shooting on days with direct sunlight, but some of my favorite lighting is on days of overcast, which is usually more common in my area.Equipment
Normally, I use one of two lenses I have, which are both canon lenses, one is a 50mm f/1.8 II, and the other is a Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM, which I'm still learning with, they're both great for close ups and portraits. My camera body is a Canon EOS 6D, I upgraded from a Canon rebel xsi about three years ago. I have a tripod, but I only use it for indoor work primarily.Inspiration
I was really inspired to make this image of my friend (Katja Novak) into some sort of duchess character. Both mysterious and alluring. This was purely experimental, I was using some skills I had learned from a photo-job I had at the time, which helped me realize that the eyes are what can help make or break a photo. The fun part was the styling, the top is actually a dress under a tunic.Editing
Yes, the editing was a signature edit I had did for a site I worked with, where a full set of images had the model in color while everything else around her was grayed out. In this, I played with the RGB with a curves layer to get the tinge of green you see in the image, I felt that it gave it a mysterious feel to it.In my camera bag
I've always felt that I can push my gear to the limits, in my bag I have a range of about 6 memory cards (sd cards, which are compatible with the Canon EOS 6D) which is usually also in my bag. The other equipment I have in my bag is my two lenses, the 50mm f/1.8 II, and the other is a Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM. Before this year, I just had the one lens in my bag constantly, and sometimes if I'm going away for a day or so, I grab my battery charger, so just in case, I'm not somewhere with a dead battery.Feedback
Every shoot is different for me, it helps when I shoot with models that I've become friends with. There's a better chemistry for my photos if I work with friends. I feel it helps making connections with your subjects, (even if it's just jokes and laughter the whole time) because they'll be more willing to "play pretend" for a while, I encourage active imaginations being used on photoshoots. For the technical terms, my friend photographed above is taller than myself, so I shot this from a low angle, pointing up, but not too drastic of an angle, I'd want to say this was shot at a 45 degree angle from where I was. If you want something with the similar vibes, shoot in an area that is heavy with natural tree growth, Washington is full of these kinds of spaces. Also, you don't have to look to far to find interesting locations near you sometimes. All it takes is how you use your imagination. I hope that helps. I was once told that my style is a very "guerrilla" tactics when it comes to photography, so I'm not sure how to walk someone step by step on a shoot, because I live in the moments of my shoots. Thank you so much!
