Location
This photo was taken at the village of Grundarfjordur in western Iceland, in the north of the Snæfellsnes peninsula. In my back is the Kirkjufell mountain.Time
This shot was made ou my second day in Grundarfjordur around 2:30 a.m. just before sunrise in the beginning of June, where the night never really gets dark in that latitudes in that time of the year.Lighting
In this shot you just have to wait for the right time, sit and enjoy the scenery, with a coat, yes it's June, but it's also Iceland at 2:30 a.m. Then, the light will come, and you will be there to enjoy and capture the moment!Equipment
This was shot on a Canon 550D, on a tripod, with Canon EF-S 15-85mm f3.5-5.6 IS USM, @ 24mm, 1 sec, @ f11, ISO 100Inspiration
The peaceful place that is this location, the slow speed at times goes by, the simplicity of the scene, the calm that this scenes transmits.Editing
This had a little work to be done, as I failed to set white balance correctly. Other than that nothing out of the ordinary, exposure correction, sharpening, a little bit of texture and a tad of contrast and it's done!In my camera bag
I used to carry my walkaround Canon EF-S 15-85mm, the 50mm f1.8 for some portraits and creativity, on my Canon 7d Mark II. Now I'm not looking back very happy Fujifilm user. X-E3, 16mm f1.4 35mm f2 and a Kamlan 50mm f1.1 MK II.Feedback
First of all, go during the summer to Iceland, the weather is warmer! In the case of this shot, you have a lot of time to pull for your creativity, as the sun sets around 11p.m. and the sunrise was a little while after 2:30 a.m., that gave me around 2:30h to play around the waterfall. Tripod is mandatory, as you can have long exposures. Plan ahead, use google maps, know what you will find, pack all your gear, don't leave the zoom or telephoto lens at home just because you are set for a landscape. And finally, take a coat and maybe some gloves, it's summer in Iceland! :)
