Behind The Lens

Location

This is the Taubman Museum of Art in Roanoke, Virginia. I noticed the building from the freeway as my mom and I were approaching the Roanoke downtown area and immediately was captured by it's unique shapes.

Time

It was in the afternoon (1:22 p.m. to exact thanks to meta data) with hazy clouds above, which did not help diffuse the harsh light.

Lighting

Since harsh light was inevitable, I decided to under expose the shot. I underexpose most of my shots because it makes it easier for me to process them in Lightroom if need be. I also enjoy a photo with high contrast, especially in black and white.

Equipment

With my first DSLR. A Nikon D3200 and the 18mm-55mm kit lens it came bundled with and that's about it.

Inspiration

This was my first time visiting the Roanoke downtown area. The building caught my attention as we were approaching the downtown area from the highway. The first thing that came to mind was, black and white and high contrast. I love the angles, its irregular shape, the sun's glare on the metallic roof. Just awesome.

Editing

I didn't do much post processing with this shot. Maybe just a tad of contrast and bring out the shadows more. I try not to post process my photos. I try to go for a natural look and feel.

In my camera bag

I do not pack much since I am still just an amateur,, but right now in my bag I am packing my Nikon D7000, Nikon 35mm prime 1.8G and a Nikon 18-140mm Zoom lens and an Altura Tilt Speed Light ( not the best but works great).

Feedback

All I can honestly say is explore. Roam the streets you know and the unknown. Go blind but with an open mind and shoot shoot shoot. Whenever I travel to a new city, my camera is always strapped to my hand and lose myself and let the city guide me.
