Absolutely stunning! The light is superb, I love the hues around the mountain and it's a wonderful composition. I tried to award you Top Choice, but couldn't click on any of the icons. I note that you used the 16-35mm f/4 wide-angle lens, I bought the Canon version of this lens yesterday and can't wait to use it and see the results!

Location
I took this photo on my 1st ever visit to Iceland in January/February 2016. This is probably the most photographed mountain in Iceland - Kirkjufell. I loved the place so much that I had to go back again in June... but that's another story...Time
The photo was taken at the end of January when it gets dark very early (around 3.30-4pm) and this was taken around 9pm. The sky was very dark by then and very clear. So clear that I could see Milky Way by naked eye.Lighting
It was pitch black in the area, no light pollution and even the northern lights started showing up. Since it was -12C I didn't wait till midnight for the activity to get stronger but instead drove back to Reykjavik and shot aurora on the way with another mountain as a backdropEquipment
I used Nikon D800 and a wide angle 16-35mm f4 lens and my sturdy Manfrotto tripod. And also shutter releaseInspiration
I kept seeing pictures of Kirkjufell for years and I wanted to photograph it myself so the place was high on my list while in Iceland. I was hoping to shoot it with strong aurora above the mountain, that didn't really work out but I think the faint aurora makes it quite interesting too.Editing
Just very basic in Photoshop Elements, brightened the foreground, increased the contrast and clarity of the sky.In my camera bag
My trusty Nikon D800 goes everywhere with me. I will always carry 16-35mm lens which is my most used lens, then 28-300mm, 50mm f1.4 and macro lens 105mm f2.8 all Nikon lenses. SB910 speedlight is also always in my bag together with a remote shutter release. And let's not forget the Lee filters. I use those pretty much for all the landscape shots.Feedback
I picked the nicest day of my stay in Iceland to go to Kirkjufell, it was sunny all day so good chance of a very clear night. However it was freezing cold so loads of layers is essential. And then just wait for northern lights to show up :-)
