Location
This photo is taken on one of my travels between east and west in Norway. This is from Eidsborg in the county of Telemark.Time
The picture is taken at night. On my travel I've had stopped to stretch my legs and saw the moon was round and clear. I knew I wasn't far from this old church from around year 1200 and decided to try get a special picture of it with the moon in the background.Lighting
I was looking for the spooky / mysterious feeling with the church, tomb stones, moon and fog. I knew the church would be lit by strobes but for this shot I needed my tripod and long exposure.Equipment
At the time I did this picture I had a Nikon D7200 body. I used the kit lens came with the body on the camera - a 18-55mm f/3,5 DX. I had a really cheap and flimsy tripod and a remote trigger. Together it turned out just as I wanted it.Inspiration
When I saw the round clear moon while stretching my legs I knew this church wasn't far away. Crossing fingers the clouds wouldn't eat the moon the last minutes before arriving the scene. I really wanted a spooky look and knew I would have to use a tripod or some kind of support for the camera body to get it done. My main inspiration for taking pictures often comes from looking at other photographers work.Editing
This picture got minimal post-process only working on contrast and clarity. In my camera bag
Nowadays I normally bring one camera and work creative with what I've got.. It really is a challenge from time to time. When I go away for a longer period of time I bring my Leica M9 with an Elmarit 90mm, a Summicron 50mm and a Cannon 35mm ltm. I also bring my Leica SL with a vario-elmarit 24-90. Real creativity for me also includes a Zenza Bronica medium format for 120mm film. In my bag there's also a flash, extra batteries and material for lens cleaning. A sturdy tripod from Peak Design is also with me.Feedback
You dont have to travel the world to take nice pictures. If you want to take pictures at night like this one I find it useful know the area in daylight. It's easier to orientate and decide where to put up your equipment rather than get there in the dark and fumble around.. Sometimes you need to be patient to get the right light but never give up. Take you time, do not rush it, and for night photography you need a sturdy hand, some support or a tripod
