Wow! I looove this photo!! I wish I could get a nice shot of an owl, it’s on my photography bucket list. I just can’t seem to find any!!!

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken while driving down a back road in my home town, it's always exciting to come across such a wonderful specimen of nature. I am a self taught photographer and love it when an opportunity such as this comes along.

Time

The time of day was approximately 2:00 p.m. and the sun was lower giving perfect lighting.

Lighting

Natural lighting was it took to make this gorgeous owl stand out in it's natural habitat.

Equipment

I used my Canon Rebel SLR with a 300 mm lens and lens hood, no tripod, no flash.

Inspiration

The inspiration was the fact that this beautiful creature was sitting there in a tree just looking at me, what more could you ask for!

Editing

I used a little contrast, sharpening and mid tone lighting.

In my camera bag

I usually have my 300 mm lens attached to my camera and in my bag I carry a wide angle lens and macro lens, just to be prepared for what ever might come my way!

Feedback

Stay calm you don't want to get over excited and scare your subject away or get a blurred photo, if you have time use a tripod if you don't have to move around too much. I rested my arms on my car hood to help steady my camera as I didn't have my tripod with me. Concentrate on the subject, line it up in your lens, use manual mode for a much better image. Take as many shots as possible and enjoy!
