Behind The Lens

Location

Lake oak meadows in Temecula ca.

Time

This was shot around 5pm just as the sun was setting.

Lighting

I used a flash behind my subject to get a backlit image, I had to keep my shutter fairly slow so the didn't become completely silhouetted.

Equipment

I used a canon 70d, an 85mm 1.2 lens and this shot was hand held.

Inspiration

I had seen several backlit images online that have me inspiration, so I decided to give it a try.

Editing

It was minimally post processed. Just the exposure and some color inhancements to bring out the orange in the trees behind the subjects.

In my camera bag

Two canon bodies, six lenses. 70-200, 85mm prime, 50mm prime 10-22 wide angle 28-135 and a fisheye.

Feedback

Make sure you have a powerful enough flash to backlight your subjects, and use your shutter to light the dark side of the subject while using a big aperture like. 1.2 or 2.0 to isolate your subject from the background.
