This work, that I call a photo-painting, consists of three different captures that I 'fused' together. In the background is a fishing pier at Captiva Island, Florida to which I added a layer of stormy skies over the fields close to my home to highlight dramatic mood to the image. The person walking on the boards is myself. That photograph was taken by my husband close to Central Station when we visited New York City. So, although it is difficult to say where the photo was taken, since it is a composite, I would say it was something that was conceived in my ImaginLand, 3la's Digital Universe.Time
Again, since my work is a photo-painting, consisting of different images, it is difficult to say, what time of the day it was. I imagined, and tried to show the mood during early evening hours, with dramatic colors in the sky and an artificial Sun shining on the boards and a walking person.Lighting
I imagined this enormous artificial Sun or Light shining on the scene, despite the cloudy skies. I thought, this kind of lighting will add suspense to the image.Equipment
I used Canon RebelT2i, EOS 550D, and an "ancient" Sony. I am a self-taught amateur photographer. I don't use professional equipment. I just grab my camera or cameras and go, explore and make pictures.Inspiration
I wanted to show a landscape where all the elements are familiar, yet, when put together they create a new kind of reality. Something that one can experience only in dreams. The person walking toward the end of the boards is walking without hesitation, although she does not know what is at the end of the path. She has no fear.Editing
In this kind of work, I always use Photoshop. This image was worked on with the help of Photoshop CS6.In my camera bag
I just carry my Canon RebelT2i, and Nikon D5300. My Canon Rebel is somewhat unreliable, there is something wrong with its focus, so I switch from Canon to Nikon whenever I need to.Feedback
It is difficult to give any advice in terms of creating this kind of images. I always have my idea first, I know the story, that I want to tell and show. This kind of image takes a lot of time to get it right, just to agree with the idea I have in my mind. I simply see it before I achieve the final effect on the screen. Knowing Photoshop, I play with it for about 20 years, helps a lot. It is an amazing tool. For those who would like to create similar works, I would say learning a good post-processing program is a must. Then you have to have also a very good quality captures in the best resolution. And the last component, or I could argue that maybe it is the first, to have an idea, and to let your imagination lead you. Don't be afraid.
