Behind The Lens

Location

It took 12 long hours sitting in the back seat of a pick up to arrive at this destination! The last hour the road is narrow, winding and dangerous. All worth it to arrive at the remote paradise called Tofino on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. This beach was just 15 steep steps from our rented home.

Time

I spent hours walking the beautiful beach and took hundreds of pictures, many on my profile page. One evening I walked down just as the sun was setting. The sand cold and smooth was covered with dozens of sparkling orbs. The orbs I found out were marble sized jelly fish that has been left upon the shore. I was captivated ! I had my Samsung Galaxy 5 camera with me and began to take pictures. I began to experiment with the light that streamed from the setting sun.

Lighting

I was intrigued by the light of the sunset and how it made the jelly fish glow. I began to experiment with the angle and position of my phone. I finally ended up laying flat on my chest on the sand, my waterproof phone nestled in the sand. When I had the light streaming perfectly through the tiny body of the jelly fish I took the picture. I was amazed by the quality and capture of my cell phone camera!

Equipment

I used my Samsung Galaxy 5 Smart phone ! I was amazed at the quality and detail captured by my phone. The waterproof feature was well used as sometimes the waves caught me off guard.

Inspiration

I wanted to share the feeling I had when I saw this eerie, beautiful and spectacular sight. The first night I lost the light too soon. I was obsessed with getting the perfect photo and revisited the beach for two more nights. The sand was hard and the water cold but I didn't care! I was thrilled with the quality photos I took.

Editing

I did not do any post processing.

In my camera bag

I am a minimalist now with my new smart phone ! The only accessory I need is my lens cloth and my phone charger.
