Behind The Lens

Location

This is the Kayak chute on the San Marcos River in San Marcos Texas. First try in learning how to use a 10 stop ND filter.

Time

Taken in the morning around 7am.

Lighting

It was cloudy so the light was diffused which I think helped in this shot. The exposure was approximately 7 minutes. The calculation for the particular shot was 10 minutes but the battery died in my remote shutter release. I now have a cable release.

Equipment

I used a Canon 5DmkII, 17-40mm lens, tripod and remote shutter release.

Inspiration

I wanted to try something different as I learn photography and saw other long exposure shots. So I purchased a 10 stop ND and this was the first try at using it. I like the cotton candy look of water and clouds using this filter.

Editing

Yes. Due to the remote release battery quitting 3 minutes short I had to brighten it up in LR, sharpen and clone out a trash can that did not fit in the shot.

In my camera bag

I usually have my 5DmkII, my 17-40mm f4, 70-200 f2.8. and sometimes my 85mm f1.2.

Feedback

Nope. I am still learning but found a lot of info on using the 10 stop ND filter on the web that helped me out.
