The photo was taken in San Antonio Texas.Time
This was early afternoon.Lighting
The photo was taken in full afternoon sun. Worst time of day, I know, but couldn't resist getting the shot!Equipment
I took this with my trusty little Nikon D40 and 35mm lens. I loved traveling with this combo. Such a petite little pair that fit in any bag!Inspiration
I was in San Antonio with a friend to watch her son graduate from Army Medic training. The couple were friends of her son and we knew the proposal was going to happen that day, we just didn't know when or where. This was more of a spontaneous shot than a planned one.Editing
The only post-processing I did was I added a small vignette hoping to cut down the brightness a bit. This photo was taken a while ago when I first began my hobby. I hadn't learned all the ins-and-out of the post-processing world! In my camera bag
The one thing I always have in my bag now is my Tamron 70-200 f2.8 lens. I use this lens probably 80% of the time. I use it for shooting portraits, sports and nature photos. It's an amazing lens and works well with my Nikon D600 (that I hope to upgrade soon!). The other 20% of the time I'm shooting with my nifty fifty Nikon 50mm f1.8 or 24-85mm kit lens and also my Tamron 60mm. The other lens that I've been using a lot recently doesn't fit in my bag... it has a bag all to itself. I've recently purchased a Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary lens. It's big, it's powerful and so far it's wonderful!!Feedback
The only advice I can give for capturing a photo like this is to be prepared for anything and to do that you must learn your camera. Be comfortable with it. Be able to adjust your settings in the blink of an eye. I went from a shade covered venue taking photos of a graduation to outside in full afternoon Texas sun . I wouldn't have been able to capture this had I not known my camera and it's settings.
