A simple portrait of a monkey that I came across at the side of the road during a trip to India in June 2014.
This monkey was sitting on a mound of earth watching people stop in their cars and was waiting until he spotted someone with the potential to hand over some food - then he was off !!

Location
I took this photo whilst on a trip to India. We were driving between Pune and Mumbai and spotted these monkeys at the side of the road, so immediatley stopped the car to jump out and take a few shots!Time
The drive from Pune to Mumbai takes quite a few hours and we were several hours into it when we reached this spot, so I remember that it was late afternoon when we got here.Lighting
As it was later in the day, I was fortunate enough to be able to rely on the sun being lower in the sky to provide all the lighting that was required for this shot.Equipment
The shot was taken with a Canon EOS 5D and a Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM lens. I didn't use my tripod for this picture, as i was in a rush jumping out of the car to capture the moment. Luckily enough, I was able to hold the camera steady enough to keep the image sharp.Inspiration
The inspiration to take this shot was purely in the subject matter! How could anyone resist the temptation and opportunity to take some shots of these beatiful animals in the wild. The scenery with the mountains in the background and the low setting sun was also stunning.Editing
There is not much in the way of post processing in this shot. It was a raw image that I imported into Lightroom and applied a few minor corrections and adjustments. In my camera bag
My bag is normally quite full - and consequently quite heavy!!! I always carry a few lenses - a 100-400mm to capture the long distance, a 100mm Macro and Flash for the really close up shots, a 17-35mm and my 24-70mm for general purpose. In addition to that, I have a few other bits and pieces on hand - a tripod, spare battery, ND Filter, a torch to light the night and some sun screen as I live in Australia and it's easy to get caught out on a hot day!Feedback
My main advice to anyone for capturing a picture like this is to always carry your camera with you! It is very rare that I go out the door without my camera in hand. That way, you are always ready for the unexpected. This picture is a great example of that, as I was just in a car driving from Pune to Mumbai. I thought there may be an opportunity to take a couple of landscape shots during the drive, but I certainly wasn't expecting to get the opportunity to photograph a family of monkeys at the side of the road!
