Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in the Olympic National Forest just off HWY 101.

Time

This shot was taken in late afternoon.

Lighting

I found that there is some amazing natural light around this area, it rains a lot so there is typically a slight mist that hangs throughout the forest. I feel that these natural lighting situations give you a great balance or lights and shadows.

Equipment

I shot this photo with my Canon EOS 6D, Tamron 10-24mm F/4, and a Dolica proline GX600 tripod.

Inspiration

I love to shoot running water, so when I came across this creek with the mist in the air and the green moss throughout the trees I had to take a few shots.

Editing

I am still kind of new to photography, so I used Lightroom 4 and photoshop CS6 to correct some of my shadows and my highlights. I want people to feel and sense that they are looking at the creek and not just a picture of it.

In my camera bag

I keep my camera bag in my truck with me every day, and in my bag I have my tripod, two cameras (Canon T4i, Canon EOS 6D) my wide angle lens (Tamron 10-24), and my telephoto lens (Sigma 120-400) as well as a couple filters.

Feedback

Don't always follow the rules of photography, always experiment with angles and move around and try different frames, I like to shoot running water from 1/15 of a sec to about 3 or 4 sec. I try not to go above or below these shutter speeds, but that is just me I recommend you experiment to find what you like or what works for you.
