Location
I took this photo at the far North West coast of South Africa. One of the last remaining outpost where they still use boats to mine diamonds from the sea bed. A small town called Port Nolloth. Rich in history and stories from the blooming days of diamonds and glory.Time
After a long tiring day on back roads in Namaqualand, I decided to rush to this little town for a well deserved break. I arrived at 18h00 and was amazed by the beauty of the town. Strolling the streets in amazement I forgot about time. At 19h30 I decided to relax at the beach and wait for the sun to set. When suddenly the mist rolled in and turned the sun and ocean in this amazingly prism of color. The boats returned and peace settled in. This photo was taken round about 8H00 when the last rays of sun was going down and the seaguls booked their seats for the night on the boats. Everything turned quiet and tranquil, a perfect moment to end a day.Lighting
There is nothing but natural light. Time, place, circumstances was just perfect. All I had to do was take pictures while mother nature played the perfect model for the shoot. I was blessed.Equipment
It was just my Canon 500, fixed lens at the time, no tripod, flashes or other lenses involved.Inspiration
My love for the ocean, sunrises and sunsets are always part of my day. It's the time of day/evening when magic happens in Nature. I always want to be part of the magic of every day, everything in between are a bonus. I love taking something special with me from every single place I go. This photo represents a special closure on a beautiful experience in my life.Editing
All I had to do was correcting the levels, and crop the image. In my camera bag
My Canon, spare batteries. When this photo was taken it was just my Canon 500 fixed lens camera.Feedback
I particular love landscapes and nature photography. Patience, patience, patience...you never can dictate what nature should give you. Awareness of what is happening in weather changes, clouds, wind, seasons. Your senses must be in rhythm with Nature. Never go without your camera, it must be your spouse, our only love and companion where ever you go! Never pass a good picture, stop and wait for the moment, it always pays off. Take time to observe what you want to capture, angles, natural light, and follow your heart.
