I clicked this picture in my balcony because I love the lighting there.Time
It was my birthday and I had a photography challenge with my friends. So I asked my mom to dress up and be my model. I took her to the balcony which had a warm hard light on the ceiling. It was nearly 7 pm and I had natural soft light to fill up the shadows.Lighting
My balcony has a bright hard light which I absolutely love. I always kept thinking of clicking dramatic portraits using that light. When I clicked some pictures, I realized " the racoon eye" effect was not looking so good. So I picked up a table cloth with transparent patterns and put it over me and my mom. This not only softened the light but also created beautiful shadow patterns.Equipment
Just my camera: Nikon D3200 with a kit lens (18-55mm).Inspiration
Platon. I saw a netflix series in which there was on episode on this guy. He clicks the best high contrast dramatic portraits. Since then I started looking for lights every where which would help me to achieve similar results.Editing
I just converted this image in black and white, pushed up the clarity, dehaze, contrast, whites and the shadows. I also added a vignette to make the subject pop out. I added a little fade which converted blacks into grey and I got awesome results. In my camera bag
I don't have too much fancy equipment. I have my main camera Nikon D3200 with kit lens 18- 55mm, a telephoto lens 70-200mm. I also have a polarizing filter for the kit lens.Feedback
To click any type of portrait, you just need to find ways to control the light. In a fancy studio you have artificial lights, diffusers, assistants, etc. to do so but when you are at home or anywhere outdoor you need to find out creative ways to control the light falling on our subject. Also placement of your subject is crucial so that the light falls and create shadows and creating depths in such a way that would help to enunciate the emotion expressed by the subject.
