Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in a field near Wells, out walking my aging dog, who has now sadly passed away. This is one of the best shots I have of him. Very treasured. He was 17!

Time

Mid afternoon I would say. I liked that it was cloudy and a bit overcast, made for good contrast without being overly lit.

Lighting

A nice dull cloudy spring day means no overexposure, it’s difficult to get good shots when an animal’s coat is black and white.

Equipment

Simple iPhone 7 amazingly. I got right down on the ground with him.

Inspiration

My dog was 17 and I didn’t think he would last much longer so in his final months I took lots of shots of him to really capture his character. He loved nothing more than to be out in the fields chasing a tennis ball.

Editing

Monochrome. Brought the contrast up a little, also added a slight dark vignette.

In my camera bag

Canon EOS 6D Mark II with 70-200mm lens, 17-40mm and a fixed 50mm. If I haven’t got that with me just my trusty iPhone X!
